2nd batch of telecentre managers exchange program concluded

The second batch of the Philippine telecentre managers exchange program concluded last Thursday, February 12, 2009. Eight telecentre managers mostly from the Visayas and Mindanao islands participated in the three-day program. The group visited a total of six distinct telecentres - locally branded as "Community eCenters" or "CeCs" - in the northern part of the country. The CeCs visited are: the Telecommunications Office CeC along Roces Avenue in Quezon City; the "Bantay Bata sa Komunidad" (Child Watch) Center in Pandacan, Manila; the Farmers Information and Technology Services – Center for Rural Technology Development (FITS-CRTD) in Calauan, Laguna; the CICT (Commission on ICT) CeC in Liliw, Laguna; the eSkwela Learning Center in San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan; and the eLGU CeC in Lubao, Pampanga. The different blend of CeCs visited gave the participants a better grasp of the various telecentre initiatives being implemented throughout the country as well as the extent of the national CeC program. The exchange program also provided the telecentre managers with the opportunity to learn from and share their own best practices, issues and concerns with the managers of the telecentres visited as well as with the rest of the participants.Aside from the submission of a blog entry about their exchange program experience, the participants were also required to formulate a one-year work plan for improving the operation and services of their respective telecentres. The first batch of the exchange program was held in the Visayas area in December last year. A total of eight participants coming from Luzon and Mindanao participated in the said program.Participants of both batches of the exchange program now constitute the group of regional content animators who are expected to regularly contribute content and participate actively in forums and discussions at the Philippine CeC portal. The exchange program for Philippine telecentre managers was made possible with financial support from Microsoft Corporation.
